Optlo: the Drift alternative

Salesloft is winding Drift down. If you used it to answer customer questions, Optlo does that on an AI account you own outright.

Last updated August 2026

On March 5, 2026, Clari + Salesloft announced the gradual sunset of Drift and an exclusive agreement to refer existing Drift clients to 1mind. The drift.com domain redirects to Salesloft now, and Salesloft's own platform page states plainly that it has transitioned from Drift to 1mind. There's no published end-of-life date, so you probably have time, but you don't have a roadmap.

Drift was a pipeline generation tool rather than a support tool. It booked meetings for sales reps, scored the intent of visitors from target accounts, and ran conversational landing pages. Optlo reaches most of that ground through workflows, because a step can call any API you point it at: your calendar, your CRM, your routing rules, or an intent data provider. The honest difference is that you'd be assembling those pieces rather than switching them on.

For a lot of Drift accounts, most of what the widget handled all day was people asking questions about the product, the billing, or the docs. That's the half Optlo replaces, and it replaces it on your own OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google Gemini account rather than on someone else's.

Choose Optlo if…

The chat on your site mostly answers questions, and you'd rather own the AI account, pick your own models, and write the prompt yourself.

Look elsewhere if…

Pipeline generation was the main event and you want it working on day one, without building the routing yourself. Salesloft points you at 1mind, while Qualified and Warmly compete for the same job.

Drift pricing and features were read from Salesloft's platform page in August 2026 and may have changed since. Check the current terms there before you decide.

01Status

How Drift got here

Salesloft announced its acquisition of Drift on 13 February 2024, pitching the combination as the first AI-powered revenue orchestration platform. Financial terms were never disclosed, whatever the round numbers floating around the internet claim. Vista Equity Partners held a majority stake in both companies, so this was less a courtship than a reshuffle inside one portfolio.

Then came the breach of August 2025. Attackers took OAuth tokens belonging to the Drift integration and used them to pull Salesforce data out of hundreds of companies over about ten days. Salesforce removed Drift from its AppExchange and the tokens were revoked on August 20.

700+organizations had Salesforce data accessed through Drift's OAuth tokens in August 2025

Seven months later the sunset landed. Existing customers get referred to 1mind, a company most of them had never heard of, under an exclusive agreement. A referral isn't a migration path: nobody moves your account, and nobody promises the replacement costs what Drift did.

02Pricing

$2,500 a month before the AI even turned on

Drift only ever published one price, and since its pricing page went down with the domain, these are the last rates it listed. Premium, the plan sold to small businesses, started at $2,500 a month billed annually, which is $30,000 a year committed up front. Advanced was a conversation with sales, and Enterprise was custom.

Premium bought you live chat, meetings, custom chatbots, intel, notifications, and landing pages. The AI-powered chatbots were listed under Enterprise, so the cheapest plan that included real AI was the one with no published price at all. On top of that sat the add-ons: seats were sold separately as Pro and Lite, and intent scoring was a separate product called Drift Engage.

$30,000a year to start on Drift's cheapest published plan, versus $192 a year on Optlo's, plus whatever your own AI provider charges for tokens

Optlo splits the bill in two and shows you both halves. You pay a plan from $16/mo billed annually, and your AI provider bills you for the tokens the agent used, at their prices, on your account. There's no resolution meter, no session pack, and no minimum year.

03Ownership

Who owns the account

Drift's customers didn't do anything wrong. They picked a well-regarded product, and over five years it got bought, folded into a bigger platform, and retired with a successor chosen on their behalf. At no point in that sequence did the customer get a vote.

That's a normal risk of buying software, and no vendor can promise you otherwise. What a vendor can change is how much of your setup walks out the door with them. The provider key belongs to you: you create it in your own OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google account, you pay those providers directly, and the usage shows up in a dashboard we don't control. You pick which model runs which step and swap it the day something better ships. Your source content is your website and your docs, which you already owned before you met us.

04Trade-offs

Prebuilt in Drift, assembled in Optlo

The sales side of Drift arrived configured. You turned on a playbook, connected Salesforce, and the routing and the calendar handoff worked that afternoon. Optlo can do those jobs through workflow steps that call your own APIs, which is more flexible and more work, so if your Drift playbooks were mostly sales rather than support, price in an engineering week before you commit.

Optlo is stronger at

  • Owning the AI account and paying providers at cost
  • A published price you can start on this month
  • Choosing and mixing models per workflow step
  • Editing the system prompt and every workflow step

Drift is stronger at

  • Meeting booking wired up on day one
  • Intent scoring sold as a finished add-on
  • Conversational landing pages for campaigns
  • Lead routing configured, not coded

The flip side is that support was never really Drift's center of gravity, so the bar it set on answering questions accurately from your own documentation is one a modern agent clears comfortably.

05Switching

Moving off Drift before the wind-down does it for you

You've got an unusual luxury here, which is time and a reason. Nobody has to justify the project internally when the vendor has announced the sunset themselves, so this is the cheapest moment you'll ever get to re-examine what that widget was actually for.

  1. Work out what your widget actually did

Pull a month of Drift conversations and sort them into questions answered versus meetings booked. That ratio decides whether you need a support agent, a pipeline tool, or both, and it's usually more lopsided toward questions than anyone expects.

  2. Point Optlo at your public content

Optlo crawls your site, docs and help center by following your sitemap, so anything you'd already published is answerable on day one. Nothing needs exporting from Drift, because this content was never really in there.

  3. Connect your AI provider key

Create a key in OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google and choose your model. The AI cost lands on your provider account from that moment, itemized by usage, instead of being buried inside an annual platform fee.

  4. Rebuild or rehome the sales plays

Meeting booking, routing and intent scoring need somewhere to live. You can rebuild them as Optlo workflow steps that call your calendar, your CRM, or an intent provider, or hand them to a dedicated tool like 1mind, Qualified or Warmly. Either way, get it running before you cancel, because this is the part that breaks pipeline without anyone noticing if you leave it to last.

What doesn't come across: your Drift conversation history, any playbook logic, and the Salesforce and Marketo wiring. Annual contracts don't refund either, so check your renewal date before you plan the cutover, and rotate any credentials that ever passed through a Drift-connected Salesforce org if you haven't already.

Frequently asked questions

Is Drift really shutting down?

Yes, gradually. On March 5, 2026 Clari + Salesloft announced the gradual sunset of its Drift conversational marketing solution, along with an exclusive agreement to refer existing Drift clients to 1mind as the successor. No hard end-of-life date has been published, so this is a wind-down rather than a switch-off. The drift.com domain now redirects to Salesloft, whose own platform page says it has transitioned from Drift to 1mind.

What is Salesloft replacing Drift with?

1mind, through an exclusive referral agreement. That's a referral rather than a migration, so there's no automatic account transfer and no guarantee the pricing or the product shape will resemble what you had. You're free to evaluate anything else in the same window, and most teams should.

Is Optlo a direct Drift replacement?

For the support half, yes, straight away. Drift was a pipeline generation tool at heart: booking meetings for sales reps, scoring visitor intent on target accounts, and routing leads to the right person. Optlo can reach into that territory too, because a workflow step can call any API you give it, whether that's your calendar, your CRM, your routing logic, or an intent data provider. The difference is assembly rather than capability, so budget time for the build. What it replaces with no work at all is the chat widget answering customer questions, which for many Drift accounts was most of the actual conversation volume.

What did Drift cost?

Drift's published Premium plan started at $2,500 a month billed annually, which is $30,000 a year before add-ons. Advanced was quote-only and Enterprise was custom. Notably the AI-powered chatbots sat in the Enterprise tier, so the cheapest plan with real AI on it was the one with no published price at all.

What happened in the Salesloft Drift breach?

Between August 8 and August 18, 2025, attackers used stolen OAuth tokens from the Drift integration to reach Salesforce data at more than 700 organizations. What came out was mostly business contact records and support case text, but in some cases it included API keys, cloud credentials and Snowflake tokens that customers had pasted into support tickets. Salesforce pulled Drift from its AppExchange and the tokens were revoked. Nothing about that was a flaw in your own setup, which is rather the point: the integration was Drift's to secure.

Can I bring my own OpenAI or Anthropic key?

To Drift, no. Optlo works the other way round: you connect your own OpenAI, Anthropic, or Gemini account and pay that provider directly for tokens, with no markup and no per-resolution fee in between. You can compare the numbers side by side.
